Free and fun

I am amazed at the number of people who have lived here for years and still have never been to Crater Lake. I’ve been here just shy of two years, and every time a member of my family visits, that is where we go.

If free things motivate you, here is a little incentive to get in gear: the park offers free snowshoe tours every weekend through April. Did you catch that? Free! You don’t even need your own snowshoes.

I got my first taste of snowshoeing last winter when my little sister visited, and I have to say it’s an excellent wintertime diversion. This time of year is even better because you won’t freeze your toes off before the tour ends.

Walks start at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Sign up in advance by calling 594-3100. Visit the National Park Service for more info.
