Skaggs needs help

Ashland ultramarathon runner Eric Skaggs, 27, was still being treated at Rogue Valley Medical Center as of Saturday, according to Rogue Valley Runners, after suffering kidney problems following his latest victory in the USA Track and Field National Championship 100-kilometer race (known as the Where’s Waldo race). Skaggs won the race Aug. 22. Soon thereafter he [...]

Raiders edge Mountaineers

By Joe Zavala   ASHLAND – Southern Oregon head coach Steve Helminiak didn’t like the way the Raiders finished last season. He can’t complain too much about how they started this one. Brandon Baldwin rushed for 195 yards, Tyler Crowley made all four field goal attempts and Southern Oregon’s defense buckled down just in time [...]

Lewis Sebrell makes all-tourney team

First, the good news. Ashland High graduate Lewis Sebrell was voted to the American Legion AAA World Series all-tournament team today. He was one of three Medford Mustangs to make the 13-player all-tourney roster, which also included Mustangs Brad Shipley and Matt Maurer. Lewis was clutch at the plate all postseason long, helping the Mustangs [...]

The Ashland High football team’s season opener – Sept. 4 against Henley – is still three weeks away, but here’s a team preview courtesy of The Oregonian … uh, and head coach Charlie Hall, who supplied the information. The Oregonian is letting the coaches handle the previews this year and Hall did a fantastic job [...]

More on new gym

I just wanted to report here what I failed to in my story last week about Ashland High’s new gym – that the renovation will also include a concrete bench, overlooking Walter A. Phillips Field, that will honor the memory of Dave Kitchell. The longtime Grizz coach died during the 2007 football season following a [...]

Say goodbye to fall sports preview tab

Full disclosure here. For the first time in … actually, I don’t even know how long … the Tidings will not be publishing a fall sports preview tab this year. In the past, the tab was thrown in with the rest of the paper on one magical day in early September. I may be wrong [...]

Kendall thinking big

My “Ashland and Medford team up” story will be in the paper today and is worth reading if you’re interested in how those five Ashland guys are faring with the Medford Mustangs (quite well, actually, for those that didn’t read Tuesday’s blog). Of course, most of the information I gather prior to writing a story [...]
