Fresh off a recent snub from Martha Stewart, food bloggers will get the star treatment during a Rogue Valley tour this week.
This blog, as it happens, is among those singled out by Harry & David for a fall blogger conference. Guaranteed to be the least known of the group, I’m nevertheless flattered that Medford’s own gourmet-foods titan extended its invitation my way.
Writing for a daily newspaper unfortunately keeps me too busy to attend all that Harry & David has in store Thursday and Friday. But I will be popping into the company’s candy kitchen Thursday afternoon to get my hands dirty.
If I can manage to hang onto my phone, photos and explanations of the event will follow on social media. Look for them on my Facebook page and Twitter. Of course, if you already “like” or follow some of these bloggers, they’ll be all over the action, as well.
I also plan to attend a farewell dinner at 2Hawk Winery in Medford, where I’ll get bloggers’ impressions of our local food scene. At least one of them will be well-versed in this region’s specialties. Reluctant Entertainer Sandy Coughlin, based in Medford, has gained a wide following since she started blogging in 2006.
I had hoped to meet Sandy in person at some point but never imagined I would share a table with Angie Dudley, aka Bakerella and inventor of the cake pop. Other blogger guests include Julie Deily (The Little Kitchen), Melissa Michaels (The Inspired Room), Shelly Jaronsky (Cookies and Cups), Lindsay Landis (Love & Olive Oil), Michael Wurm Jr. (Inspired by Charm), Cassie Laemmli (Bake Your Day), Gina Homolka (Skinnytaste), Robyn Stone (Add a Pinch), Ali Ebright (Gimme Some Oven), Amanda Green Bottoms (Kevin & Amanda), Judy Gambee (From Home to Roam) and Helen Jane Hearns, director of content strategy at Federated Media.
