The weekend Medford Jazz Festival tested the staff mettle at The Inn at the Commons and Howiee’s, as hundreds of music fans filled downtown venues.
“We wanted to make a good first impression for everyone,” said Chris Anderson, operations director for Neuman Hotel Group which acquired the former Red Lion property last summer.
That required a presto-chango performance by the staff and management following Friday’s Rotary luncheon in order to set up the 600-seat ballroom for mid-afternoon performances.
It also gave the public a sneak peak at the Medford version of Larks restaurant, which Neuman Hotel Group hopes to have running in December.
“We were doing a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the jazz festival,” Anderson said. “We put that together to make it as simple as possible, since we don’t have the staffing yet.”
Food and beverage director Eva Deroiser oversaw a quickly-organized staff to meet the needs of hungry visitors.
“We don’t yet have staffing for an event of this size,” Anderson said. ”We brought friends in and people in from our other properties we own.”
