Australian bush fires boost Elvis sightings

It’s the time of the year when Erickson Air-Crane crews get called into action as wild fires threaten not just the bush, but homes. Here’s a report from The Australian.

Ledger David Winery celebrates its second anniversary on Central Point’s Artisan Corridor, at 245 N. Front St., this weekend. The winery’s LePetit Tasting Room, squeezed in betweenLillie Belle Farm’s chocolate shop and Rogue Creamery, will serve sparkling wine and complimentary champagne-infused cupcakes from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Ledger David is offering deals on its 2013 San Francisco Chronicle Competition award-winning wines during that period. Now through March, the shop is open Thursday through Monday.

A weekend opportunity

They are too old to merely be students these days at OSPIRG, but they still have a pretty good understandings of student loans.

Alaska Air Group, which operates Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air posted third-quarter earnings of $289 million, or $4.08 per share, today. That’s up 77 percent from $163 million, or $2.27 per diluted share in the third quarter of 2012.

Kris Ransom, a retired Avista Corporation manager of industrial markets, died Oct. 22, after a battle with cancer.

Ransom served on a national consortium of gas distributors and providers seeking to increase awareness and use of alternative fuels. Practicing what she preached, Ransom commuted between Klamath Falls and Medford in a Chevrolet Tahoe converted to a natural gas. She consulted on Rogue Valley Transportation District’s rebuilt CNG fueling station and was a board member for Rogue Valley Clean Cities Coalition.
