How to Decorate Your Graduation Cap

Is your graduation day coming up? Congratulations! You finally made it to the peak of your academic career.

Now, all you have to worry about is how you’re going to dress for the big day and one of the main parts of your attire is the graduation cap.

While it typically comes in a standard design, you’re allowed to spruce it up a bit to express your style.

Leave It for the Last Minute

The evening of your graduation can be an emotional rollercoaster.

On the one hand, you’re beside yourself with excitement but then again, you’ll probably have a lot of anxiety and stress as well as anticipation. Don’t worry. All of this is perfectly normal.

But, with so many graduation cap ideas, your graduation outfit shouldn’t be one of them. Now, it’s time to get cracking on decorating your graduation cap because leaving it until the last minute simply won’t do.

Think About the Design

For best results, make sure to plan your design beforehand so that you can figure out whether or not it works.

You don’t want to find out on the day of your graduation that your cap doesn’t fit right and sometimes the way you imagine something isn’t how it turns out in real life so make sure that you have a realistic design by testing it out way beforehand.

You can start by sketching your designs on paper and make sure that your dimensions are correct.

Once you’ve honed down on a favorite design you can even do a photo collage with all of your favorite elements that you plan to incorporate and make sure that it’s realistic.

Gather the Supplies You Need

When you’re sure that the design you’ve come up with is practical enough to make with the materials that you’ve got, then you should start making a list of the supplies required, including all of the craft tools and embellishments that you need.

You might have to order certain things online because they’re not available at your local craft shop. Keep in mind all of the different components that you’re going to need so that you don’t miss a single item on your list.

Besides, it’s always a good idea to walk in with a list when going to a craft store or you might end up buying the whole store and none of the items you actually came for.

Don’t Rush

In addition to designing your graduation cap and planning ahead, you should leave enough time to get the job done right.

It’s important to take your time and avoid rushing the process otherwise you’ll end up with lackluster results.

Give yourself at least a few days or even a week to finish it, because you want it to be perfect. The point is, give yourself enough time to create a graduation cap that you’ll be proud of.

Aim for a Meaning

While you might be tempted to joke around and include some unexpected elements in your graduation cap. Just make sure that it’s classy and timeless.

Avoid going too wild and only use decorations that help you express your personality. Be true to you and you’ll look back on the pictures you take on graduation day with fondness.
