How to Motivate Yourself When You’re Bored with Online College Classes

It is easy for you to become bored when doing college classes online. It can be a real killer of motivation to sit hour after hour and you often find yourself staring blankly at the screen.

When this happens, you are not taking in anything and it is better to do something else for a while and come back refreshed and ready to concentrate again. Studies show that taking breaks every 90 minutes can improve your focus and attention. If you can give yourself a reward for studying, it can help to motivate you.

Watch anime

Keep in mind that different methods work for different people. It can be tricky to find activities that are just challenging enough to refresh you without being too demanding.

Watching anime, for example, is a great choice for many people when they’re bored while doing online classes. Naruto is always a hot favorite. Knowing you can reward yourself by watching Naruto: Shippuden in your study break can be motivating.

Refer to the NoFillerAnime list to find out what canon or filler is in this popular series and craft your own filler-free Naruto: Shippuden viewing experience. If you add in some great anime-only story arcs, you can enhance your viewing without the fluff.

Find a rhythm

When you don’t have a routine to structure your day, it is easy to feel bored. By creating a new kind of routine, you can restore a sense of meaning in your life and buffer yourself from boredom. When you’re doing online classes, your routine will be different but you still need that structure and variety of activities to bust the boredom.

Having specific times in the day when you exercise, eat, talk to others etc. can break the monotony and give you the motivation you need to keep going with your studies. You won’t have to sit around feeling as though you don’t know what to do next or that all there is in your life is studying.

Try something new

Trying out something new will quickly deal with your boredom. For example, learn a new dance on TikTok, experiment with a new recipe or learn how to play a new online game.

Your boredom will disappear and doing new things won’t only relieve your boredom but require you to develop new skills. You may even discover a new hobby or passion. When you embrace new experiences, your life becomes more meaningful and you will be happier.

Cook a healthy meal

Cooking a healthy meal can kill two birds with one stone. You can do a low-thought level activity to take your mind off your high-level cognitive activities and make something healthy to fuel your body at the same time.

It may be easier to order take-out, but a simple, healthy meal will be far more beneficial. If you don’t want to make a full meal, you can always prepare a healthy snack, like a salad. Feed your brain with healthy food to help you concentrate better instead of eating unhealthy snacks that will probably make you want to sleep rather than study.

Express yourself creatively

Creative activities, such as dancing, can boost your energy and clear your mind. Have a quick dance session to an online dance video and you will quickly deal with your boredom and get your blood moving and flowing to your brain.

Some people enjoy doodling or painting in their study breaks. You may just find that creative activities like this can make you feel refreshed, stimulated and more motivated to return to your studies.
