How The Way You Speak Tells a Lot About Your Personality

The words we speak or write clearly represent the inner thoughts and beliefs that help ascertain our personalities. In life, we come across many different people and their traits are clearly determined by the manner in which one speaks. 

Keeping these in mind, the tonality and mannerisms in our conversations hold equal importance in the recognition of traits and emotional bends. There is enough importance to be laid on talking manners and habits as we look to come as strong or influential personalities. 

Choice of words makes a difference 

The choice of words is an essential factor in determining personalities and it’s often confused with the fact that a good vocabulary helps determine one’s personality as strong, independent, or outspoken. Though not entirely untrue, there is a small difference between the choice of words and then the choice of stronger words.

While a good vocabulary does help, it is choosing the words that match the sentiment or support one’s thoughts that make the major difference in identifying and perceiving a personality. To understand the usually thin lines of difference among such various factors, strives to enable the fair understanding of differences in a simple, clear manner.

As we are introduced to new people at work or social events, we tend to have a judgment about every individual. The way you talk about people, your perceptions or judgment talk a great deal about your own personality. It is important to be kind and correct as we speak about people, even when there may be a difference in opinions. 

A harsh opinion put forward can put a negative connotation to one’s usual personality. It is true when said that ‘The way you speak about others defines you in turn.’ 

It is imperative to be thoughtful of the choice of words and tonality, especially when speaking about others. Even if there is a difference in opinion, there is always a better way to portray them, and you must use them. 

Written communication plays a vital role  

Written communication is as important as spoken conversation owing to the fact that we regularly exchange emails, messages, and tweets at work and otherwise. The way one types, selects the choice of words, and punctuations also contribute to the determination of personalities. 

Perhaps that is the sole reason why work emails are usually kept formal, simple, and crisp, for no one wants to read emails with informal choice of words or opinions.

Optimism or pessimism traits show in communication 

There is a stark difference between the way an optimist person communicates when compared to a pessimist. The choice of your words and the way you describe situations or ordeals highlight the inner traits of your personality. 

For example, an optimistic person who may have had a tough day at work will describe the situation keeping all positive factors in mind, which will come across in their communication. On the other hand, a pessimist will end up using communication tactics that display their utter dissatisfaction and focus words on the troubles ahead of them.

Length in communication determines your personality 

A person’s way of communication directly talks about an important personality trait- introverts or extroverts. A simple observation is enough to help understand whether one’s an introvert or an extrovert. 

Introverts tend to keep their communication limited and prefer written communication over vocal usually, while extroverts indulge in quick and easy conversations with people in regular activities.
