HAIKU MONDAY: On Half-Life Fests, Dead Contests and Lusch Rewards

Welcome back to Haiku Monday, where Fish Hack is setting a personal milestone this week that some of you will find interesting, some will find amazing and others will consider down-right pathetic.

As of Tuesday, yours truly will be the Fish Hack at this-here Fish Wrap for exactly half Hack’s life.

Yep. Reached the apex of my incompetence at least a decade before you loyal readers.

A Fish Hack’s half-life:/The life of Fish Wrap sponging/All before 50.

Conned my way into the job at a little over 24 1/2 years old. Been loving every minute taking the Fish Wrap’s outdoors effort from a single buried Friday story to an section judged best in the country in 2010 by the Outdoor Writers Association of America, which subsequently canned the section contest because it clearly had ridden its course.

Fish Hack earns reward?/Better just kill that contest./Can’t have Hack stand out.

Ahh, but Hack digresses. More interested in plying the upper Rogue River — Hack’s home waters — for a mix of spring Chinook salmon, summer steelhead and wild cutthroat trout.

Wanna see the Fish Wrap’s take on cutthroat from last week’s Oregon Outdoors? Check it out HERE.

It includes a fab pic by Fish Wrap shooter extraordinaire Jamie Lusch, of course.
