Whose playtime is it?

One of the comments in the last dog park blog really caught my attention. “Cynthia” said, in her experience, a lot of the incidents that occur at our local dog park are a result of dogs becoming over-excited. A guest speaker at Dogs for the Deaf said Finland has hundreds of parks. But they don’t seem to have the same problems with [...]

Dog park petiquette part deux

The good news is my niece’s hound, Bella, is good to go – back to the dog park. Yeah! Turns out Bruiser didn’t break Bella’s paw with his over-aggressive “body-slamming” play. The hound’s carpal joint was just a bit strained. And my niece reports Bella is back to romping. The bad news is getting so roughly tumbled has shaken the young dog’s confidence. While Bella still gets [...]

Doggone it! Watch your dogs!

I’m about to spout a considerable amount of heresay. But as I’ve personally witnessed more than my fair share of clueless critter parents, I’m betting this went down pretty much as relayed  – even if this particular story comes via a beloved family member. My niece and her hound, Bella, are dog park regulars. On Saturday the dynamic duo were soaking up some much needed sunshine [...]

Do you love me, deer?

Here’s a wild Valentine’s Day story for you courtesy of the Internet, where it’s making the rounds.       It seems Cupid pulled back his bow and sent his arrow straight into this young deer’s heart with the romantic message, “May you fall madly with one as fleet of foot as you.”           But [...]

Uno is Number One at Westminster

Before I launch into this dog blog, here’s a quick update on Goldie the Goldfish. She’s still with us. Still eating  — including medicinal smooshed peas. But, sadly, other than two very brief flurries while she snabbles up food, she’s still on her side at the bottom of the hospital tank. Thanks for all your comments and concerns.  I’ll let you know if [...]

Goldie’s last chance

Goldie is in the hospital. A two-gallon hospital I purchased Saturday night and plopped her into around noon on Sunday. It’s too early to tell if this last attempt to rescue her from her upside down life will work. But I’m willing to give it a shot. Goldie, in case you missed the last post, is a 5-year-old [...]

Goldie looks like a goner

Upside down at the bottom of my 50-gallon aquarium, Goldie barely moves – unless it’s feeding time. And I feel like I’m watching the end of an era. It all began five years go when I bought a whiskey barrel, two gold fish and a few aquatic plants. The plan was to have a gurgling mini-pond on my deck. [...]
