What they call reverse publishing

By TIM TROWER

You’ll notice the schedule of local events on our Scoreboard will have a different look beginning Wednesday. With the Varsity541 Web site we started this fall, there’s a calendar of games that requires a different form of data entry than what we’ve always done for the print edition. As we intensify our Web work, one thing we don’t want to do is create twice the work by doing the same thing one way for the newspaper and another way for the Web. Hence, reverse publishing, which has quickly become a catch phrase around here.

So, rather than having the two-column, boxed format we’ve had for some time on the Scoreboard page, the local schedule will be the lead board item in the upper left column, with the white-on-black headline you see elsewhere. The same info will be there, just in a different format. You can also find that calendar on the Varsity541 home page. This is our first venture with it, so there could well be some glitches along the way. Schedules do change, as we saw yesterday (Monday) and again today as basketball games have been postponed because of winter weather. But we hope the information will be useful for you and relatively painless for us.
