I finally made it back to the gym today after one, a trip; two, a little sickness; and three, just getting out of a routine. While watching ESPN on the treadmill monitor, it occurred to me:
Could the NIT have gotten any luckier than to have both Stephen Curry and Patty Mills in its tournament? Then to have them both fill the highlight reels (no more reels, I guess) on Tuesday night with spectacular shooting performances. I’m convinced Curry, the nation’s leading scorer, could spot up here and drain and shot in Moraga, Calif., home of the Gaels and Davidson’s next stop in the NIT. What a matchup. Curry against Mills on Monday. Not sure how the NIT does its scheduling, but I’ve got to believe this isn’t a coincidence. They are the two players/two teams that were most talked about as NCAA snubs, and now we get an early meeting. Nice.
ESPN FirstTake has a neat mock draft where media folks who follow the NFL teams do the draft picks as their turn comes up. I wonder how much inside information they have and if they’re tipping said organizations’ hands. The Jags guy, from a radio station, went with Jeremy Maclin, the Missouri receiver/return man, today at No. 8. Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree went a day earlier to the Raiders.
