Reader feels Crater was slighted

Some follow-up from state track:

I may have slighted the Crater Comet boys track and field team for not putting more emphasis on its second-place finish in the 5A team race Saturday at Hayward Field. It wasn’t intentional, surely, but it was apparent to at least one e-mailer. The finish was the Comets’ best at state in 27 years, he told me, and they deserved more than an “Oh, by the way” mention. I can’t disagree. With so many individual champions to contend with, that’s where my focus was. The Comets secured second place by winning the 4×400 relay, the final event of the day.

More on team stuff. Another reader called and noted we didn’t have team results. They should have accompanied the results in Sunday’s paper but were omitted. Look for them on the Scoreboard in Monday’s paper.

I blogged about Sam Crouser setting a national record in the javelin with his throw of 231-1. It bettered the national mark of 229-7 listed in the meet program. As it turns out a mark of 235-3 was reached in a meet earlier this month in Pennsylvania. Both it and Crouser’s throw must still be verified before the record book is changed.
