(Edit: The OSU-A&M game is Friday at noon Pacific)
The baseball season just keeps getting better for Oregon State and local players Sam Gaviglio of Ashland and Rob Folsom and Logan Boyd of Medford. The No. 3-seeded Beavers were selected to play in the Fort Worth Regional of the NCAA tournament this weekend, joining No. 1 seed and host TCU, No. 2 seed Texas A&M and No. 4 seed Wright State. They open against A&M, but the time and date haven’t been determined.
After winning back-to-back NCAA World Series, OSU wasn’t selected last year. It closed the season poorly and had a sub-.500 record in the tough Pac-10. The Beavers were still on the bubble until being swept in their final conference series at USC. This year, the Beavers went 4-1 down the stretch, won their last series at Stanford and tied for third in the Pac-10 with a 15-12 record. They are 35-17 overall.
Gaviglio will most certainly be called upon. The freshman leads the Beavers with nine wins (against one loss) and pitched a three-hitter against Stanford Friday.
