Jason Allred attempted to qualify Monday for the U.S. Open and came up short at the NCR Country Club South Course in Kettering, Ohio. Allred shot rounds of 70 and 71 for a 141, putting him in the top half of the field. But it took a 136 to qualify for the Open and a 137 for a shot at the alternates’ list.
Allred doesn’t have status on the PGA or Nationwide tours and is trying to work his way into events through Monday qualifying.
At the Kettering sectional, Cortland Lowe of Charlotte, N.C., cruised to a 130, four shots better than anyone else. Three others qualified with him: amateur Clark Klaasen (134), Cameron Yancey (136) and amateur Vaughn Snyder (136).
The alternates are amateur David Erdy (137) and Blake Sattler (137). Four others also shot 137.
