We have our share of people coming and going, and seldom do we announce changes. This is as good a spot as any to do so. One of our full-time staffers, Luke Andrews, worked his final day a week ago. Unlike recent moves that were the result of layoffs, Luke departed on his own so he could marry and move to the Portland area. In fact, his wedding is less than 10 hours from now. He will go to work in a business of his soon-to-be extended family. Luke lost his father this past spring, and the move will allow him to be closer to his mother in Silverton. He plans to continue writing when possible as a stringer and will keep his eyes open for newspaper opportunities up north.
Those who crossed paths with Luke, who was here for nearly two years, know what a joy he is to be around. He worked hard and was a talented, conscientious and valued member of our staff. We wish him and Stacy all the best as they embark an an exciting time in their lives.
I’ve been asked several times if we will fill the vacancy. We hope to, but we’re awaiting word on that prospect.
