Mustangs down Roseburg for second straight win

The Medford Mustangs won their second straight game at the American Legion AAA State Tournament Thursday with a 9-4 victory over Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s at Hansen Stadium in Corvallis.

Zack Earle belted a second-inning grand slam, his seventh homer of the season, and Neil Emerson pitched five no-hit innings before being lifted to start the eighth inning. He gave up one run, three hits, struck out five and walked five. His record is 8-0.

Medford (38-8), the two-time defending state champion, faces either Corvallis or Salem at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a matchup of unbeaten teams. The double-elimination tourney runs through Sunday.
