Barry gives himself a chance with even-par round

Mike Barry did his part today to get near the projected cut line in the U.S. Amateur, shooting even-par 70 at Cedar Ridge for a two-day total of 8-over-par 148. He is presently tied for 138th place, up 41 spots from where he started the day.

The 36-hole qualifying portion of the 109th tournament in Tulsa, Okla., goes to late in the day, after which the top 64 advance to match play at Southern Hills.

A story we ran from the Associated Press projected the cut to be 147. There are 312 players in the field, and most all of them teed off  behind Barry today.
