I’ve been reporting some inaccurate info on the Southern Oregon Golf Tournament. Two players have won at least four men’s championships. Eddie Simmons won the title six times between 1934 and 1949, and Richard Hanen won it four times (’40,’41,’46,’47). Simmons also won the men’s senior title four times. This info comes from the SOGT committee.
Three players entered in this year’s field — Doug Olson, Tommy Smith and Brooks Newsom — have a chance match Hanen at four men’s victories.
On a lighter note, I bought some new golf shorts and wore them into the office before heading to the course. They’re a little more colorful than my others. Here were some comments:
“Do those come with batteries?”
“Do you know how many plaids had to die so you could wear those?”
When I explained they’d fit right in on the golf course, someone said, “That’s a good reason to give up golf.”
Ba-dum-bump.
