Kyle Singler and Duke face Connecticut for the NIT Season-Tip Off title today at Madison Square Garden in New York. Both teams are undefeated and ranked — Duke No. 7, UConn No. 13 — and presents a terrific matchup. It’s on ESPN at 2 p.m. today.
Singler, of course, will play a pivotal role. Here’s how ESPN analyst Hubert Davis broke down the game:
“It’s a team sport but it’s going to be a great individual matchup at the small forward position. You look at Duke’s Kyle Singler, I think he’s the best small forward in the country. Defensively, he’s terrific, but on the offensive end, he just doesn’t have a weakness. He can post up smaller guards, he has the ability to knock down perimeter jump shots, put the ball on the floor, distribute the ball, he’s fantastic on both ends of the floor.
“But he’s going up against Stanley Robinson, who could be the most versatile defender in the country. At 6-9, he can guard all five different positions, and then on the offensive end, he’s a guy that’s really improved this year. He’s knocking down that perimeter jump shot, putting the ball on the floor, mid-range jump shot, also posting up. He has played terrific basketball for UConn, so when you look at that matchup, that could determine who wins this game.”
