So who was the top Abby’s scorer?

Josh Havird, a junior wing for South Medford — I mistakenly called him a senior in today’s paper — scored a career-high 30 points in the Panthers’ opening, 71-49 win over Redmond in the Medford Abby’s Holiday Classic Monday. So what does he have to do to threaten the scoring record in the 20-year tournament? That and a little more.

Jamie Snook of Lakeridge averaged 32.3 points per game in 1993. The next-best average is 26.7 in 1995 by Eduardo Miranda of Los Altos, Calif., in 1995.

South Medford’s Mike Vanderhoff averaged 24.3 in 1995, good for No. 4 on the all-time list and the best by a player on one of the host teams. North Medford’s Jeff Zimmer averaged 23.0 in 1998, which is sixth best..
