North Medford senior Kyle Waits knew what he was talking about when he said the game-winning howitzer by South Medford’s Mike Brassel was worthy of ESPN following their basketball game Tuesday night. Brassel made a three-quarter basket at the buzzer to beat the Black Tornado, 55-54.
This morning, it was replayed on ESPN2′s First Take in their Quick Takes segment. Reischea Canidate introduced the video, which looks a lot like the footage (do we still call it that in this digital age?) Will Southwood of KDRV Channel 12 got. She reported that North’s Michael Bradshaw made a free throw to put the Tornado up 54-52 with 1.3 seconds to go, then described Brassel’s shot as it sailed through the air and into the twine.
“Nuthin’ but net, baby,” she said.
The resulting Panther celebration was also shown.
If you haven’t seen Brassel’s shot, here’s the clip from the game video shot by Luke Renard:

Jay Crawford then said that was nothing because Brassel was “facing the basket.” Next up was a clip of the Golden State Warriors’ Monta Ellis making an over-the-head shot with his back turned to the court. It happened in the morning shootaround.
Crawford did come back to give Brassel props, however, noting Ellis’ shot counted for zero in the boxscore. “Loved the three-quarter shot,” said Crawford.
Later in the show, the clip is shown again as part of an update segment. The reporter notes Brassel had fired two 3-point air balls moments earlier, only to make up for those in a big way. He wraps up his report with, “Eat your heart out, Jalen Rose.”
