Look back: This isn’t such a bad Final Four

Lest we start thinking this is a weak Final Four with only one No. 1 seed and a couple No. 5s in the field, let’s revisit the preseason AP Top 25 poll. Butler, the “Cinderella” story to this point, was the lowest-ranked team — at No. 11. Michigan State was No. 2, West Virignia No. [...]

Singler’s shot self-taught?

I’ve heard from a few people who scratchedtheir heads over a comment by CBS’s Jim Nance about Kyle Singler’s shooting. Nance said the Duke star from South Medford has a shot that is “self-taught.” What Nance bases that on, I don’t know. When you consider that the Singler family tree has a multitude of Division [...]

Allred misses by one

Jason Allred missed the cut today in the Nationwide Tour’s Chitimacha Louisiana Open in Broussard, La. He was even par through two rounds, missing the cut by one shot. He started the day even, then birdied three of the first five holes before losing all three shots to par on the next two. He had [...]

Allred on the projected cutline

Jason Allred completed his second straight even-par round of 71 in this week’s Nationwide event in Broussard, La. He’s on the projected cutline of 142, so he has a little waiting to do to see if he plays this weekend.

It’s nice to see Allred back in action

It’s good to see Jason Allred back in action after a relatively inactive golf year in 2009. As I write, he’s a third of the way through his second round in the Chitimacha Louisiana Open in Broussard, La. The Nationwide event is the first on the tour since it opened with four overseas events, then [...]

A friend of mine with a daughter on the West Linn girls golf team sent me this from ESPN Rise, a site for preps. I’m posting it here because they’re also showing a little love to North Medford baseball and Ashland track. Just an FYI, it’s Bradey Shipley, not Brandon, who is part of the [...]

Crater’s Kappel added to all-star game

Now, the rosters are set for the Mail Tribune All-Star Basketball Classic. Really. We’ve had to make a couple of adjustments, which is going to happen when you’re dealing with 40 players. We’ve added Lexie Kappel of Crater, who has signed a letter to play collegiately next year at College of Idaho. She helped the [...]

Glitch in All-Star voting should now be fixed

I came back from vacation today to find there’s been a glitch in our online voting process to determine starters for the Mail Tribune All-Star Basketball Classic on Saturday. Oh, and I also found out we’d lost a star girls player — Ashland’s Allison Gida — to a scheduling conflict. If you voted before for [...]
